The Association known as the Union of Catholic Mothers is actually open to ladies who are not mothers and also single ladies, so the title is a bit of a misnomer. The membership starts at National Council level and filters down through various diocese, ending up at Parish level where they are known as Foundations.
Each Foundation must have a President, Treasurer and Secretary. According to the Rules and Regulations of the Association, Foundation cannot exist without these three positions. The Secretary's job in our Foundation is divided into Social/Admin and Social/Welfare.
We meet every two weeks in the Parish hall, we attend other Parishes for a UCM Mass every other month, and the Officers attend what is known as a Business Meeting at the Cathedral every other month. Information/news from there is passed down to our members with any actions that need to be taken.
We have our own UCM prayers which are said at our meetings, together with prayers for any special intentions. We give support at funerals for deceased members and for any social gatherings that take place within the Parish. From our annual membership subscriptions, raffles and bring and buy evenings, we are able to support National Council's chosen charity, plus those that we chose ourselves. We also support seasonal events, such as Christmas and Easter boxes.
We have a Committee which chooses the programme for January to mid-July, and September to December, and we try to make these as varied as possible around the dates which are given to us.
We are always looking for new members, so if you are interested, please contact one of the UCM or the Parish Priest.
